Strong Girl Fitness Client Profile: Maribeth Greene

- Strong Girl
The first day I met Maribeth we were sitting down chatting and her phone started blaring with the rock sounds of one of my favorite bands “Disturbed”. I laughed because I was sitting next to a very quiet and interesting women who was eager to start making changes. Over the last eight months she has evolved from a reserved and hardworking client into a heavy lifting, ripped, and focused client. Not only has she dropped body fat, she is close to deadlifting her full bodyweight!
How long have you strength trained? What is your favorite body part to train?
I have been training for 8 months. I love training all of them! All for different reason though. I love training legs – they are my trouble area and as they are changing, I feel such an accomplishment. I also love working out shoulders and arms. Spending last winter rehabbing frozen shoulder, my arm had atrophied and I had put on more weight than I was happy with. My shoulders and arms were the first place I started to see change. That was when I thought, “Hey, this is really working-I want more!”
How does nutrition and supplementation play into everyday life?
For years, I didn’t want to really believe nutrition and supplements were important. I wanted to think you could exercise those chili cheese fries away. Over the years, I have had some successes. I weighed over 170 lbs at one point in my life but I had maintained in the 135 lb area for past several years. I couldn’t really break that plateau or make any real difference in my physique. As it turns out, it was because of my eating habits. So I started eating clean. But even with that, I would only eat clean Monday – Thursday. After working out with Kim for a few months and seeing positive changes; but then seeing set-backs from the weekends, I was determined to try eating clean 90% of the time and include weekends. (Because they kind of count too.) It was just a 6 week experiment…that worked. Now it is honestly a lifestyle and although it takes planning and commitment, it is doable and somewhat easy. If I am armed with the right food, I don’t turn to the “wrong” food. I still thoroughly enjoy those planned cheats though, meatball pizza being my favorite.
Many women struggle with exercise and eating clean, what thing made it finally “click”?
Knowledge and seeing it work. You were giving me articles, magazines, books, anything to increase my knowledge. I then applied it and could see it work. I could also see what didn’t work. I was given the information to determine my formula and in turn that gave me the power to know I could do it. That is what made it “click”.
Describe yourself in one word:
Goal-Oriented
What are your future goals?
Reflecting on 2011, I can say that I have had the most fulfilling year as far as fitness and fat loss in my life. I have to give you credit. I could not have done this without you empowering me with knowledge and encouraging me along the way. There are days when I just don’t lift well or I didn’t eat well but you are always positive and do not discourage me. You make me keep going
So for 2012, I would like to be a part of empowering others to find their “fitness formula”. For my personal fitness goals, I would like to continue this fitness journey by adding some muscle and being a strong girl!
